London Fashion Week is over and despite the less than ideal weather (i.e shitty), endless outdoor queues, and that good old fashioned English snobbish attitude (that is never out of fashion) the week was an event. Oh yeah, and who could forget the new rule “bloggers are not invited to on-schedule shows”. Brilliant idea. Nonetheless, I made it to many shows, where there is a will there is a way. You can’t stop the hustle and you can always manage to be where it counts. So take a moment and check out some of my favorite shows from LFW AW14.

“Paris Cats after Midnight” is the AW14 collection by Belle Sauvage showcased at Fashion Scout. The inspiration of the collection was the iconic Parisian woman during the devastation of WWI and WWII. The feline attributes are injected throughout the line combined with a military touch. The looks are playful, pop, feminine and mysterious. The mystery is hidden behind a front of exposure, with gold chains, red lipsticks, necklaces and pearls appearing as bold digital prints, gold thread embroideries or trims.

Prints are definitely trending across the AW14 runways and few conveyed this better than Burberry Prorsum.  Prints were indeed the protagonists on the stage as they adorned each garment from floaty dresses, handbags to shearling jackets. Romantic floral, tropical paisley and Aztec prints reminded me of travelling. Silky and lacy dresses were combined with maxi scarves tucked in the belt, and oversize bags. The color palette varied from beige, blackcurrant, cameo pink, dark green, blue navy and yellow. For the finale all the models flaunted a massive blanket ponchos.

Prints are one of the signature traits of Mary Katrantzou collections and although her AW14 style was not that much about prints, the show outdid my expectations. Ancient Greek symbols, embedded motifs and more contemporary signs adorned several pieces. Pleated long dresses and metallic jacquard suits were among the highlights.

I love how each season Meadham Kirchhoff manages to be so over the top and kitsch. The reaction for their AW14 was as usual “How the fuck did they come out with that?” I still have to find the answer but the result was hologram-like snakeskin coats in metallic purple, pink chiffon dresses and spacey romantic boots. A total visual trip.

Tom Ford is always Tom Ford. And this collection was so “Tom Ford” that a couple of pieces paid tribute to Jay-Z, who wore a similar jersey – minus the sequins- during his concerts. The 14AW collection intersperses bright red gowns, animal printed looks and sequin jersey dresses.

Anytime I attend the Topshop Unique Show the risk is that at the end of it I want it all. This time was the same, it’s always so cool, fresh and fashion forward. The AW14 collection is a proper mix of English Heritage and attitude. I particularly liked the use of colors such as cobalt, caramel, soft pink and dark grey. Highlights include knee length skirts, mini bomber jackets and faux fur pieces.
