London Fashion Week was once again the quintessential stage for some of the most forward-looking designers. The many brilliant and inspiring shows reminded us why we love fashion. Check out some of the coolest SS15 collections from London.
Bora Aksu SS15 collection was romantic, pretty and light. Light in the literal sense, considering that the abundant use of organza and crochet help to convey the concept of what will be a graceful and dainty spring. Layers of sheer fabric and a colour palette that ranges from white, creamy and blue tones make this a fresh collection.
Sexy, modern and functional are all adjectives that describe the Temperley London SS15 collection. Plaid and gingham suits and waistcoats seemed like they would be at home in a man’s wardrobe. Kimono references, the mixing of prints and stripes are all evident features on the runway. Daywear was more the focus as compared to eveningwear as the brand dedicated the collection to dynamic and versatile women.
Mary Katrantzou showcased an outstanding and extremely well tailored SS15 collection. Texture is the new focus of the designer, who we first came to love and distinguish thanks to her signature prints. Pangaea, the Paleozoic super continent was the inspiration. Earth-settled colors opened up the runway that then evolved in more lively colored tones, like purple, blue, yellow and red. Guipure lace shaped like snakes and other prehistoric creatures created sophisticated cutouts which gave life to luxurious dresses, skirts and more.
The real protagonist and wardrobe staple for the SS15 Burberry Prorsum collection was the denim jacket. In the classic indigo, cropped version or bi-colored alternative, you will find the perfect one for your style. Paired with delicate tulle dresses and skirt and sneakers, the compulsory trend of the season, the collection was desirable, dashing and easy-to-wear.
How else could you imagine a Tom Ford collection if not ultra-sexy, bold and provocative? For the SS15 collection Tom Ford captured all the above, with mini-skirts, baby-doll dresses, plunging necklines, sheer hold-ups, satin bra cups and sequined harnesses. The collection has a 90s soul with fetish and rock vibes here and there. The predominance of black interspersed with metallic colors added elegance and drama. Mr. Ford is totally immune to the idea of daywear and as soon as I saw it, I immediately thought about Rihanna. I am sure she will be rocking some pieces very soon.
Peter Pilotto won us over with his technically complex combos of materials and fabrics. Embroideries, macramé, crystals and acrylic inserts made his SS15 collection unique and brilliant. The designs were pretty simple but on point as they were enriched by a multitude of decorations. Handkerchief hemlines, diagonal stripes and Harlequin-esque prints had a big role on the runway too.
