New York Fashion Week was its usual chaotic week filled with designers, celebrities and wanna-be’s. We covered a ton of shows but we’re featuring the most intriguing for your viewing pleasure. Check below to see our highlights of New York Fashion Week.

Designer Jackie Fraser-Swan’s Emerson collection portrays the perfect combination of rock meets romance that is her brand’s signature. This season the collection added a hint of contrasting darkness mixed with soft blush pastels. Fabrics such as chiffon, lace and duchesse satin set in tones of champagne, black, silver and navy convey a look dedicated to strong and confident women.

Bohemian Californian is the look for the Michael Kors Fall 2014 Collection. Comfort is the new urban luxury that is translated into easy to wear sophisticated pieces. Chunky oversized sweaters, chiffon peasant skirts, salt & pepper fur jackets are among the signature pieces paired with mink scarves and fringed clutches.

Sister & brother design duo Nicholas & Christopher Kunz of Nicholas K introduce their new Fall 2014 collection “Gaumy”, inspired by the dark, cold, world depicted in the photo series Men at Sea by French photographer and filmmaker Jean Gaumy. Reflecting a sense of cold isolation and life at sea, the collection includes a dark color palette of navy Atlantic blue, midnight black, charcoal grey, burgundy, cream and an ocean abstract print. Silhouettes reflect the layered, natural ease with an edge that is the brand’s signature. Handknit cable sweaters are worn with slouchy pants tucked into boots, or rolled up leather fisherman shorts over leggings, with high collar buckle jackets and quilted, hooded parkas.

Nature was referenced as the starting point for the Noon By Noor collection. The colors and unique markings in minerals and crystals inspired the designers to look at  patterns found  in  the natural environment. The color palette is awash with ice blue, cool mint, mauve, navy, burgundy and vanilla with pops of yellow, chartreuse and royal purple. Texture is explored by combining felt and faux fur, chiffon and heavy crepe and leather and felt. Voluminous coats, culotte pants and sweatshirts juxtapose straight dresses, inspired  by the 1920s garcon look. Hints of masculine tailoring balance sporty, effortless daywear. This season the designers expand their evening wear repertoire, focusing on detail and unexpected fabric combinations. Dresses are adorned with intricate embellishments, delicately scattered on tops or cascading down tiered gowns to dramatic effect.

The Fall 2014 Rebecca Minkoff collection is inspired by menswear designs that are in turn translated into feminine and colorful silhouettes. The result is an easy to wear and fashion forward collection. Faux fur toppers combined with printed silk dresses underneath, relaxed trousers and Oxford stripe pieces highlight the concept or laid back coolness.

Skingraft’s Fall 2014 collection is inspired by the idea of drastic climate change and an inevitable return to a dystopian survivalist future. The collection pulls from Siberian, Mongolian, and Arctic tribal cultures that have adapted, thrived and built communities in harsh climates and severe conditions for centuries. This artic inspiration is filtered through Skingraft’s signature nomadic streetwear lens and explores new fabrications including hand-quilted leather and mohair, shaved ponyhair, ribbed nylon-fused fleece and intricate embroideries detailed with leather and metal jewels.
