From the 14th to the 17th of January the hip city of Berlin hosted the 14th season of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Berlin.  The atmosphere was electric and it was exciting to see how this city continues to evolve as an important destination for discovering young designers.

The Alena Akhmadullina AW14 collection presented by Mercedes Benz and ELLE is a parade of bright colours, gorgeous designs and signature prints. Her latest creation is inspired by romantic motifs from Oscar Wilde’s  “The Canterville Ghost”.  Maxi skirts, long gowns and high necklines portray a modern woman that doesn’t need to reveal too much to be sensual. Alena’s work is much loved by celebrities and it-girls, so it comes with no surprise that Georgia May Jagger was sitting in the first row.

Timm Süssbrich, the designer behind the label Barre Noire, flaunted a fresh collection where streetwear takes on a more sophisticated tone. The juxtaposition between materials with different texture created harmonic balance and strong looks. Leopard prints in metallic burgundy, sheer fabrics and voluminous maxi skirt highlight a AW14 collection where nonchalance and elegance play an important role in each look.

The AW14 collection by Malaikaraiss has a fun and feminine twist. Signature highlights include: leather dresses, clean-cuts, oversize playsuits, emerald colors alternated with pink powder and black. The ready-to-wear styles combine innovative fabrics and yarns with a unique finishing in an expressive look and feel.

The Holy Ghost AW14 “Back to the Roots” collection pays homage to the origins of the designer trio: the folklore of the Balkans. “Back to the Roots” stands for a modern interpretation of Eastern elements combined with European city chic. HolyGhost takes us to far away countries where printed silk and luxurious embroideries are the protagonists of the spirit of their native country.

Anne Gorke showcased a fun show enhanced by live drums, cool vibes and silver air-balloons. The AW14 collection “Yo Madame” is defined by a mix of classic elegance and effortless cool. Sleek shirt dresses, deep foldings and elegant day dresses as well as evening gowns feature the label’s signature Bauhaus influenced design blended with a hint of tough-chic and hip-hop attitude.

Marina Hoermanseder presented one of the most radical and unique AW14 collections. Bodies, extremities and prostheses are her inspiration. Vegetal tanned and hand-colored quality, volume generating buckles with an air of extravagance are all witness to innovative craftsmanship at the highest level.
