When I was in Prague this past September for Fashion Week, I was particularly intrigued by Czech emerging designer, Markéta Martišková. I loved how unique and expressive her SS15 collection was. Watching the models strut down the runway I could imagine Björk wearing a Markéta design. During my stay in Prague I had the chance to sit with this Czech talent, learn more about her collections and try her favorite recipe!

Markéta Martišková was born in Czech Republic and began her fashion studies at 15.  After the University of Fine Arts in Bratislava, Slovakia, she went to Belgium to continue her studies at the prestigious Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. In 2009, Markéta did an internship in design development for Volkswagen and later at the Belgian designer Lena Lumelsky. In 2010 and 2013 she won the young designers competition organized by Prague Fashion Weekend.

“As a designer I like to express my feelings and thoughts through my collections. I dare to express an opinion towards global issues through my designs. I love to communicate with symbols, typography and prints and experiment with new techniques” says Marketa when asked about her design philosophy.

She goes on to discuss how time is another critical component in her work. “It’s not about what happened in the past or what will happen in the future but it’s about now, living the moment. We should enjoy every minute, because every minute counts and is important. Feelings, intuition, love, moment, spontaneity, beauty, technique, tradition, spirituality, soul are some key elements I wanted to narrate through my work”.

With those ideas as our backdrop, it is time to share recipe details. Markéta is as creative and artistic when it comes to cooking and meal display as she is in the world of fashion. I tried what she described as her favorite recipe from her childhood: Wreaths. It was new to me but they were delicious. You can check below how to prepare them. Let us know the results!
