Barbados is obviously renowned for its beautiful beaches and luscious natural scenery. It is less known for its culinary culture. Upon my recent visit I found this surprising given the abundant supplies of seafood and natural fruits and vegetables. It is difficult to go anywhere on the island and not be greeted by countless choices of great food and flavors. This only encouraged me to dig deeper: flying fish, shark sandwiches, fish cakes and tennis rolls were all on the top list of my local favorites, but I was definitely intrigued to try Daphne’s, one of the islands culinary jewels.
Daphne’s Restaurant, which is part of Elegant Hotels is a striking beachfront restaurant on the west coast of the island. Daphne’s reputation speaks for itself but it bears repeating that it is the preeminent dining choice in Barbados. At Daphne’s you can enjoy modern Italian classics infused with island seafood and flavors such as fresh fish and lobster, all in an elegant waterfront surrounding with authentic Bajan hospitality. Being Italian I am pretty picky when it comes to trying Italian food that is not in Italy. My guard is always high even when a restaurant is highly praised. But I have to say that the dinner surpassed my expectations. Each course was not only prepared with refined ingredients and high creativity but also reflected the tradition of Italian cuisine with original Bajan flair. The flavors took me back to Italy while my surroundings were a tropical heaven.
My three course dinner was perfectly orchestrated. My appetizer was Grilled Octopus with Cherries Tomatoes and Olives. My first course was Spaghetti with Lobster. My second course was Seared King Scallops with Pancetta, Fried Polenta and Spinach. The champagne flowed at a seemingly endless rate. The meal, the drinks, and of course the exquisite views and service left no doubt as to why Daphne’s is the premier choice for A-list celebrities and food connoisseurs alike.
Daphne’s is adjacent to The House, a luxury boutique hotel that caters to serious couples (adults only) that are there to recharge, connect and feel pampered. The House was built to provide a unique and unforgettable experience. Daphne’s and The House operate in tandem to provide a world-class experience for both your lodging and culinary needs. The House is expert in providing a luxury service in every way possible. It is intimate, having only 34 suites, and this is by design. French doors, marble bathrooms, iPod docks, Egyptian cotton linens are some of the many features that will make you feel as if this is your home away from home. Whereas many luxury experiences will overwhelm you with many perks in the form of gadgets and devices, what makes The House differ from others is the impeccable service. Upon arrival each guest is greeted by The House Ambassador with rejuvenating cold towels and cool tropical drinks and gifted with a massage during their stay. Champagne, afternoon tea and evening canape are a daily delight. From the moment I stepped on premises I was swept into The House experiences. Champagne cocktails, the sunset, cool beach breezes, everything was picture perfect.
