It is officially 2014. It is a new year and with that comes the thrilling promise to make a change. I love the excitement and hope that a new year brings. We feel rejuvenated and ready to face new chapters and although at times it is just the perception of change, its always good to feel a better version of ourselves. Whether our 2014 resolutions are lifestyle adjustments, eating healthier and working out more often, or more radical decisions like changing jobs or moving abroad, it is important to highlight some change. I like to think about resolutions more as reminders of where I want to be in this arc of time professionally and personally. The journey I want to take rather than the goal I want to overcome. Resolutions often fade away as the year progresses, which is why I want to post my resolutions list so anytime I off track, I can see them. I will have the chance to look at my list and have the positive attitude typical of the first week of January. Welcome to 2014, let’s make it count!

John Lennon – Just Like Starting Over – “This could be your year to stoke the flames of fading love”

BE MORE PRESENT
I want to enjoy simple moments that I usually take for granted and have my mind free from the constant thought of what happens next. I want to make an effort to live in the moment and make the best of it.

CELEBRATE SMALL ACHIEVEMENTS
It’s easy to get caught up in our ambitious and long-term goal and ignore small achievements. I want to embrace the small victories and make it all worth it. By doing so, I think it will be more rewarding to look back and appreciate the hard work.

BALANCE BETWEEN PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL LIFE
I want to cut the bullshit. Do less and with more purpose. I want to turn off my phone more often. I want to manage my time better. Prefer quality to quantity. Understand when it’s time to stop working and when it’s time to start partying and vice versa.

SMILE MORE
I want to find a good reason to smile each day. There always is, but it’s simpler to get caught in routine and weird moods. I want to make an effort to be more positive and build happiness day by day.

M. Ward – For Beginners – “There’s an unmistakable beauty and wonder in newness”

LET THE PEOPLE I LOVE KNOW IT
This is pretty self-explanatory but nonetheless difficult to do. I love to hear it, so I want to get better at saying it too. It’s a nice and rewarding feeling.

BE MORE A PRODUCER THAN A CONSUMER
I want to start my days thinking more about the things I really want to do. I want to be more active and leave less room to procrastinate. I want to create more, whether is writing, cooking or designing clothes.

BE A MORE CONSCIOUS SHOPPER
I love shopping and I love clothes. I have improved in the past few years but I want to get better and stop buying cheap crap that ends up sitting in my drawer. I want to buy smart and understand the story behind the things I buy. I also want to reduce my shopping habits and think about creative ways to wear what is already in my closet.

So there you have it, my personal goals for 2014. Some are large, some are small. All of them will contribute to a better 2014 for me. What are yours? Feel free to share and have an amazing 2014.
